Traffic Advisory Council (TAC)

Advises the public and votes on matters to be provided by petition to the County Commission and makes recommendations on matters pertaining to traffic, parking, speed regulations, and safety within unincorporated Sarasota County. Resolution No. 2020-158, as amended removed requests for traffic calming.

The process for obtaining a sign requiring a resolution is done through a petition to the Traffic Advisory Council (TAC), by a homeowners’ association or a group of residents.

This process from the time a completed petition is received until the Board of County Commissioners votes typically takes 6-8 months.

There are certain exclusions to what can be requested through the TAC process, these exclusions include:

- Multi-way stop signs CANNOT be installed on roads designated as major collector or higher.
- The speed limit CANNOT be reduced on arterial roads.
- Truck prohibition can ONLY be requested for local roads.
- On-street parking restrictions MUST show that parking of vehicles on public streets is a hazard to vehicular traffic and impedes the safety of vehicular traffic.

TAC Council Advisory Board Meetings:

  • Meets quarterly on the 2nd Monday of the designated month in the Board Commission Chambers.
  • Location will either be 1660 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota, FL or 4000 South Tamiami Trail, Venice, FL.
  • Static signs and electric signs are posted at the location(s) where a request to the Traffic Advisory Council (TAC) is being considered the Monday before the meeting date.
